broken...

i did break my wrist. i was floored that it was really broken. truly i was sure they were going to tell me i had mildly sprained it . Hum. i broke the radius bone in a nice clean break, and not all the way through the bone so that is a good thing or they would have had to pin it. what a crazy thing to have happened. how did it happen you ask? well, i was playing with one of my older sons, he was lying on the couch and i was pulling on his arm and he was pulling on mine....you know the old tug of war thing...anyway we slipped apart and i went flying backwards and as near as i can remember, i think i must have tried to catch myself and i landed with my hand under me, on the rocks that surround my wood stove. all of my, hummm, weight on my bent hand....it was to swollen to cast, but is in a hard splint. when it's in a cast, and my thumb is free, i will be able to do a lot more. you should have see the slice of bread i cut for dh's sandwich today...lol. it was a little thick on one end! the break doesn't hurt too much so that's a blessing i think. i am not much good at slowing down! lol. i think i may need to have a brown cast.....maybe it will show the painting, coffee, and wood staining and dirt less! LOL there is the promise of rain later this afternoon, that would be very welcome. have a great day everyone! ♥

crippled......

Hi and good morning.
I had big plans this morning to wish my oldest daughter a very happy birthday on my post, but I met with a small accident yesterday in the comfort of my own home, and I have sprained my wrist or broken it. I'm off to the doc this afternoon to see what the prognosis is. Either way, I feel dooooomed. Oh course it's my right hand..............I have a blessing dress to sew........ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
(I know it'll all work out, just a minute of panic!) :-) So,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!!!! (yesterday)
I love you so very much. You are just an incredible woman in my eyes! I'm so amazed and proud that you were born to me. What a blessing in my life to have you for a daughter!
I love you!

In Hymn Of Praise......

There Is A green Hill Far Away
Words by: Cecil Frances Alexander 1818-1895
Music by: John H. Gower 1855-1922
***
There is a green hill far away without a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified, Who died to save us all.
*
We may not know, we cannot tell, What pains he had to bear,
But we believe it was for us he hung and suffered there.
*
There was no other good enough to pay the price for sin.
He only could unlocks the gate of heav'n and let us in.
*
Oh dearly, dearly has he loved! And we must love him too,
And trust in his redeeming blood, and try his works to do.
***
Once again this beautiful arrangement of this hymn is done by

Have a restful Sabbath Day.

mammograms.....................

mammograms.....................
My Sister sent this to me, and I thought it was a hoot. I sent it to all most everyone I could think of, including my SonIL, and decided I had to share it here! My DH did not enjoy it nearly as much as I did....lol....... Enjoy a laugh!
***
Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam and doing the following exercises, you will be totally prepared for the test and best of all, you can do these simple exercises right in and around your home.
EXERCISE ONE:
Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast in door. Shut the door as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure. Hold that position for five seconds. Repeat again in case the first time wasn't effective enough.

EXERCISE TWO:
Visit your garage at 3AM when the temperature of the cement floor is just perfect. Take off all your clothes and lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn over and repeat with the other breast.

EXERCISE THREE:
Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Press the bookends against one of your breasts. Smash the bookends together as hard as you can. Set up an appointment with the stranger to meet next year and do it again.

YOU ARE TOTALLY PREPARED!

don't you feel comforted now???

For you who asked, the flowers were so easy to make. Here's a fast tutorial...
I used two circles the same size, about 4 inches, and and then a smaller circle half the size of the larger one, so about 2 inches. I used unbleached muslin, for the large circles, and brown, red, and green prints, plaids, and dots, for the smaller circles. Layer two large circles on top of each other, and set a smaller circle on top and in the middle of the two larger ones, and sew it on, using embroidery floss. Leave a spot open to fill with stuffing, stuffing your center fairly tight then finish sewing it the rest of the way up. Now cut all the way around your circles almost to the centers. Coffee stain and bake on cookie sheet lined with foil, till dry. Sand the edges to help them fray some more. My DIL has made some that are about 6 or 8 ". I know they are cute.....

With this nasty, dang, disgusting, miserable, annoying, energy consuming cold I've had, I have gotten a cold sore....don't you hate them? ( I know hate is a strong word, can you think of a better one here?) Anyway, have your tried L-Lysine. It works very good for clearing up a cold sore in just a couple of days. Of course, I over dose myself and don't take just the required daily amount.... which is one a day ......you need to take three or four or so and the next day do the same.... So if you get cold sores, and haven't tried L-Lysine, you might try it. You can find it with the vitamins in most places. It works wonders!

BTW......If you need me to come help you with the frozen bookends, give me a shout out! LOL (smiling here......)

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

I am once again participating with Leslie in Whatcha Working On Wednesday . This morning will go by all too fast and then it will be time for potluck and cards with the women of my family. We are still doing school, and therefore my time is almost nilch in the morning and early afternoons....however, I am going to start a new hand sewing project. I should be spring cleaning like Leslie has been doing....I want to throw it all out and have just the "bare necessities". Well........maybe not "all" of it.........and that's what gets me into trouble! I am way too sentimental about all my stuff. (we could die from non lack of stuff here...........) lol....... Anyway, I am part of a primitive swap group, and these are the first ornies I made to swap.........

with the coffee stain on them, ready to go in the oven

fresh out of the oven

after they had been sanded

They turned out to be much too small. So I am keeping them for myself................

I was looking for a bird pattern......was just playing around thinking of summer time things I could make for my swap group......(still trying to find the right prim ornie) This is also a "freebie" and I think it needs a pin keep under it..........this is before the coffee stain. (it is in the oven as we speak)
http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/birdpattern1-1.pdf
It was very easy to make, in fact I hand sewed it in my motel room last week .

This is my sewing project that I want to start today while LBC is researching his Social Studies project. What I have in mind are small little pillows stitched on linen, that will hang on a nob somewhere. These are both "freebies" also. The angel one is from Robin at http://birdinthehandprimitives-robin.blogspot.com/

and the americana is from Twigs at

http://www.primitiveblessings.com/catalog.php?category=215

Thanks you again Robin and Twigs for these "freebies" we all love to get them!

And lastly are my watermelon slices. I made myself a pattern and tried one.

before coffee stain.....

this is after.......

I think I like them. So I plan to make some wedge pieces to go with the slices. These will go in my old bucket on my front porch.

I have a few more bedding plants that need to be put in the ground. Yesterday was warm, but the w i n d blew and my ears were so full of dirt by the end of the day! Today is a carbon copy of yesterday, with the one exception. It's colder.
So those are my plans for today, what are you working on ????
You should join Leslie and go see what everyone else is doing!

Have a great day everyone!

feebies, eating, jumping, & uncles...........

HI everyone and good morning. I can't believe how much I have missed in a weeks time! I have been reading your posts and lots has been happening! I'm going to come and visit you today and do some catching up......Hope you all had a great day yesterday with your families and Mom's! I have discovered another fun blog, a Craft blog with a huge variety of crafts. I looked at many of her back posts and found a variety of ideas! Thanks Robbie!http://cashstrappedcrafting.blogspot.comf/

All you primitive fans, in case you haven't been to Bird In The Hand Primitives for awhile, Robin has a new freebie! http://birdinthehandprimitives-robin.blogspot.com/ I want to stitch this one up on linen. I made several different sizes trying to decide what size I wanted to do. Robin offers us all fun freebies. Thank you too Robin!

We had a pot luck yesterday afternoon and each of our children and families were here! It was nice and warm and we ate outside. Lots of room for the grandsons to run, not to mention the sand box......LBC has a pogo stick, and yesterday it was the star attraction with the "big" kids. We laughed so hard!

LBC pogoing in front of the camera, making it look so irresistible that all the big kids had to give it a shot....and another....and another....! I had no idea how much fun a pogo stick could be! I have no pictures of the adult kids jumping, but it was a hoot to watch them! Soon Landon wasn't satisfied just jumping, he had to jump over things....and then they started talking "back flips".......

I wanted to get all 6 grand kids in one happy picture.....uhmmmmm. how about one picture! LOL(Aunt Laura didn't want to be in the picture at all !)

We ate a flat of strawberries yesterday! The kids ate them hand over fist!........dipped in soft chocolate...........believe it or not, these pictures were the "clean face" pictures! lol

While I was in Grand Junction I went to Visit a three of my Mom's older brothers... well, at least I went to visit their graves...lol

This is my Uncle Reid, He was 19 when he died......He had talked my grandma into signing him up in the service so he could parachute. He was 16. She didn't want to, but she did. He was very good and in fact he was so good he taught others how, until they found out his real age. The they sent him home. He was full of life and energy and they said he had a hard time sitting still...Anyway, after he came home from war, he was mixed up in something.....ummmm......don't know for sure.......in Washington state and was shot in the back and killed by a sheriff there. The Sheriff that came to tell my Grandma he had been shot, brought his coat and gloves to her, and told her how he was shot, and that his gloves were blood splattered on the backs which meant he had his hands up above his head, when he was shot in the back. He told her to get a lawyer and pursue it, but she had no money to do any of that. So my whole life the stories were told that he was involved in something he shouldn't have been, and perhaps had found out things he shouldn't have known, ......who knows. But he left a tiny little son also named Reid, whom my Grandma was able to adopted when he was two, and he became my Uncle Reid. His sisters called him, "little Reid". Little Reid and my mom are all that are alive in their family now.

Next is Uncle Harold.

I have never met this Uncle either, and yet I feel such a connection to him.......The
last time I was in Junction was the first time I came to this cemetery to find their graves. I came armed with butcher paper and crayons to make rubbing of the headstones.......anyway, as I was rubbing my crayon over Harold's headstone, all of a sudden the head stone fell over!!! No kidding! I was in total shock! And then it was as if the three of my uncles were laughing! I know they set me up for this! So I laughed with them LOL
The headstone was upright this time when I went. & no, I didn't knock it over again........
My mom said Harold was soft spoken and tender hearted and had red hair. (red hair is a coveted thing in my family! ) While he was in Germany, he met and married Verbena. She was Itialian, and she was just finishing her schooling and was becoming a Doctor . They were married in Munich Germany where they both died a month apart from each other of asfixeation in their apartment. Why? Don't know....Lots of stories.............. Verbena is buried there, and Harold who died a month later was sent home to Paradox Colorado where my Grandma was living. He was 25. Another son was sent home to grandma in a box.
She had previously lost her husband, and a baby daughter at the age of 2, and then these 2 young sons came home this way. I know it broke her heart.

This is Harold and Verbena on their wedding day.

This is my Uncle Ben. I did know this uncle. I have so many good memories of him. He had sandy red hair, was covered with freckles and was also soft spoken and gentle. He fell down a mine shaft once and broke his back and shattered his legs and was told he would never walk again. Well, he did. And without a limp. He had several accidents like that happen to him in his life time. He died when he was 50. I was 16 the year he was killed & I remember it well.
He and his youngest son were headed to Mullen Idaho and were driving on the freeway somewhere just north of Roberts Idaho . They have really terrible dust storms there, and he was in one. He had stopped to help a woman change her flat tire and was run over by a semi truck whose driver couldn't see where he was going.
My grandma had so much sorrow in her life. It is amazing to me how strong her faith was, and how grateful I am for her incredible example. My Mom was the baby of her family until Little Reid came to live with them, and she was the "darling of her 5 older brothers. I grew up knowing and loving these men. They were very good to me and spoiled when I was around them. I was a huge fan. And sometimes its almost hard to imagine that I never actually met Reid nor Harold in this life time, because they have always been a part of my life.

here the three of them are.......

So that is the saga of a few of my uncles in a nut shell.....

And if you have stayed with me through all of this family stuff.......you are brave souls!
I'm so grateful for my children! I love them dearly. I am grateful for my parents, and their parents and so on. For the generations of people who belong to me, who lead the way and built lives through toil and sorrow and happiness. Who pioneered in harsh conditions and who homesteaded and worked hard and loved the Lord. Thank You. Thank you for making my life so easy. Thank you for the richness of family heritage!
Have a great Day everyone!

I Often Go Walking
words by: Phyllis Luch b. 1937
music by: Jeanne P. Lawler b. 1924

I often go walking in Meadows of clover, And I gather armfuls of blossoms of blue. I gather the blossoms the whole meadow over; Dear mother all flowers remind me of you.

O mother, I give you my love with each flower To give forth sweet fragrance a whole lifetime through; For if I love blossoms and meadows and walking, I learn how to love them, dear mother from you.
♥♥♥
I love you Mom!
Words are not enough for what you have done and are to me.....
♥♥♥
And for you..... Katie, Laura, and Angie, who are the most incredible moms of young families ever, and for Kim who knows the loss.... whose tender heart loves and mothers every child.......

You are my examples! My life is so rich because you are all part of it!
I love you all!
I pray you will find much happiness and joy in your sojourn
as mothers and wives!

home again...

HI Everyone! I have been gone for the last five days! I am home again, and I have brought with me, a cold. Darn varmint cold! I did take my lap top with me and had plans to blog, however the wifi was not free, and was more than I wanted to pay......I've been to Grand Junction Colorado with my DH who went to attend line school. The weather was warm so I was in heaven. It was 88 both yesterday and today! Um Hum! You know I just soaked it up! Some of the roses are in bloom there, and the first crop alfalfa looks like it's almost ready to be cut. I also got a picture of some wisteria in bloom . Wisteria......... I can't imagine having wisteria..... let alone having it in bloom this time of year! It was very pretty. I went to all my favorite haunts, some are still there, and sadly some are not. We ate good food, too much I'm sure, & I shopped until even I got tired! I know, hard to believe huh. It was a nice break from the normal things that take our time and energy. It was nice to be home again, and it's time to crack the whip on myself and get some stuff done. Before I left I had started to paint the doors and trim in the newer part of the house. All the trim and molding and doors are all white and I'm way done with it. I also painting the walls a new color too. I really don't care to paint, but I do like the way it all feels and looks when it's done. No pictures tonight. I'm bushed. I'm off to my bed! Tomorrow I'll have to catch up on what everyone has been doing with themselves this week. Good night all.♥

In Hymn Of Praise

Jesus Said Love Everyone
words and music by Moiselle Renstrom 1889-1956
Jesus said love everyone;
treat them kindly too.
when your heart is full of love,
others will love you.

This beautiful version of this simple Childrens hymn was composed by the very talented Paul Cardell http://www.paulcardall.com/
