Whatcha Working on Wednesday

Good Morning. It's Wednesday already! I am joining Leslie today for Whatch working on Wednesday. Visit her blog toady and see what everyone else is working on today. http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/ I am done with these "quick" mini samplers that took me fooooorever to finish. lol They are leaving my home today! We have school and that seems to take up a big chunk of my day.....then it's off to pot luck and cards with all my girls and my Mom. I am working on this little tool carrier. It was a TS buy, and I had painted it and stained it, but didn't like the way it looked. So, I am re painting it, (this is the undercoat color)and then I'll letter it and distress it. It will go in my DH office here at home.

This is what I want to letter on my carrier....the old ranch name and our brand....not sure of the graphic yet...

I have been working on painting this sign for awhile also. This is is our school room/spare bedroom/sewing room/craft room! lol

I woke up this morning around 2, I was restless from the dreams I had been having and I sat up to look at the clock and realized it was off. I woke up DH, who is on call this week and told him the power was off. It was nice he was on call because his truck was home and he had all his tools. Our transformer had tripped and wouldn't hold. Come to find out our welder had shorted it out, and when that was unplugged the recloser held fine. I was glad to get the power back on, and that we didn't have to call some other lineman out of bed to come fix our troubles, especially when it was our own fault! Whew! I NEED to clean up in my yard!!!!! It's even free dump week all this week......So I am hoping Friday that DH and I can take a load to the landfill.....:-) Three generations of farmers have lived in this old stone house, and farmed this land....and there are
three generations of "stuff" stored here! No joking...... Have a good one! ..........Kassie, we'll miss you today. :-( ♥

done...ish....

I started these for Valentines day....I knew they wouldn't take long to do and would look fun hanging from a cupboard nob or something like that.........Then I told myself that I would get them done for Easter baskets, hummmm, yes.......well, close.....but no cigar. SO, now they are done.........mostly.............
I don't have a picture of them framed yet, as only three of them are. I did get all the frames painted and distressed though........

It was a beautiful day here yesterday and LBC and I went for a hike over on the hill. It's not far from home, about half a mile is all. We discovered some petroglyphs that I had never seen before in the 30 years I've lived here....and so close to home and my wanderings! As you can see by the pictures, someone else had previously discovered these same petroglyphs!!! Harry Thompson to be exact! Whoever he was! And Leon somebody, and MHM.. The knot heads! The funny thing is, I had seen The Harry Thompson name carved into the rocks lots of times and knew it was there, but I had never noticed the real petroglyph behind his name. They had absolutely no respect for what was there, and carved their names right over the top of it! In a few places! It was hard for me to see into my camera and know what I was taking a picture because the sun was very bright....so these are not too great. Later in the day was better, but I forgot my camera that time.....We went back over to the hill after my Dh got home from work because I wanted to show him this place and see if he remembered seeing these as a kid living here. He hadn't seen them he didn't think. And while we were standing there, looking up at them, I noticed some more lower down! I will post some new pictures and this time I'll try to get the entire petroglyph! I have a friend who just lives a mile or so around the road, and along her hill she has a lot of really nice ones, but we had never noticed any this close to our home before! I was excited! I LOVE LOVE LOVE history! I told LBC that ancient peoples stood where we were standing, I know I had chills up and down my arms...lol......he, on the other hand was unimpressed . And later in the day as we were at the stack yard loading hay, I told him that whoever had drawn the pictures most likely would have come to get water from the creek by our house because it was the closest place for water, and his reply was, "I doubt it mom". ( in reality this could be true, cuz who knows where the water ran all those hundreds and hundreds of years ago....but I didn't even thing to bring that up...I would be interested to know his opion on that topic! lol) There is just no accounting for the interests of a 12 year old boy! He thought it was "cool", but nothing to rave about! (geeeeeze mom)

You can see the names are over the Goats? Sheep? I don't think it's deer because there is a good deer just above these and it is different. But the very far right of the goats, is a wolf or a coyote following the herd. I only got it's head because I didn't realize what it was until I went back over in the evening. I'll try for some better pictures.... But you can see Harry's name and Leon's over the picture. Harry's name has been there a long time, Leon's is a newer scratch. And to the right side of the MHM is the big deer buck, and the M is over another smaller deer. I don't know what the long squiggly things are, maybe river?, maybe snakes? They look like they have eyes, and the top one has something spouting up.....

Here you can see the eyes and the spout pretty good, and you can see the difference in color and depth of the drawings and modern scratches.

This is looking up, from down lower, you can see where we had to climb up to to get a good look. There horse that you can see when you click on the picture is a modern day petroglyph....maybe Harry Thompson was trying his hand at a horse. There is also a modern day train that is by another of his autograph's.

These are wild onions and they are everywhere on these hills. They smell so good! Go out and enjoy the historic things that are around your homes! I wish I could come and see everyone of them what ever they are! :-) We have a beautiful country rich in the histories of so many different cultures and peoples! Don't you wonder what they were all like? And what their lives were like? And how they lived from day to day? (yeah, yeah, I know I get a little carried away....but......don't you wonder?............)

A pair of 6 year old's came to visit me yesterday while their mom was having a hair cut....But they didn't hardly even come in the house..........they had more important things to do! lol

This morning I meant to show you some samplers I have been working on off and on for a while....however, the cord the to the camera is at my daughters home.....so I will show the samplers another day. We had a good week end here. We had some rain which was needed, and some snow, which didn't last long at all. But in between the cold rain and snow, we had some sunshine. My DH spent the weekend getting his wheel lines ready for water. He has been dreading these first water turns because it is still soooooooo cold in the mornings and evenings, and getting wet is inevitable. Each morning, today included, there has been ice on the ground under the sprinklers. LBC had a scout camp out this weekend. It was the"Spring Camporee" , and the lucky bunch of them managed to escape the rain. He came home Saturday bushed, but happy. They had a good time and when I asked him what they had done he replied "not much". Hummmm....yes, well, I know they do plenty at scout camps especially at a District camp.... As it turned out he won a second place in a survival pack up your stuff race, and came home with a prize. As the rest of the afternoon wore on, more details slipped out . Boys are funny! 12 year old boys are knot heads!!! lol Especially mine... The scout master wanted to go home and have a nap. I hope he got one, or at least a good rest! THANKS Vaughn for all the hard work you do for our sons!

On Saturday evening we went up to Bluebell to our friends home and did some black powder shooting . We had a fun time, and for me it was the first time I had ever shot a primitive long rifle! There is an order to things...and if you don't load it in order, you a mess. Three things to remember, powder, patch, ball. Well, truthfully there are more than three things to remember.........lol anyway, I said it over and over in my mind so I wouldn't forget.... powder patch ball, powder patch ball, powder patch ball........ LOL We had a good time! I even hit the target, which did surprise me. I am a little proud of myself........OK, you know how much I love history, and you know how much I love to go to Rendezvous and dress in my period clothing, and you know how much I love to sew 18th century clothing, ( I know, I know, you're all rolling your eyes at this point in my post and wondering if I don't have other things in my life to think about besides this......) Anyway, I have been needing, yes, NEEDING, to make some new stays.

I have some started from last year that I didn't get done....... and at this point I am trying to decide if I want to dress in mid 18th century clothing anymore, or if I just want to make a three hide dress and go "stay less"! lol :-) ......Hummmmm what to wear, what to wear.

Tomorrow, hopefully I will have my cable back , and can show you my samplers, and a few odds and ends of things I have finished up as well as some possible petroglyphs not far from this old Stone House.

bee's knees!

Well here it is Tuesday morning. I can not believe how fast the days zoom! Yesterday we helped to move one of our sons and his family. We have two little grandsons staying with us, and one of them is sleeping in my spot in the bed! :-) I am not as young as I once was, and not in very good shape. I was a tired woman last night when we got home. It is TIME to get out and resume daily walking!!

On sat. we picked up two new hives of bees. This is always a fun day for all of us. We buy our bees from Jones Bee in SLC. http://www.jonesbee.com/The kids always talk their dad into new gloves, or a new veil, or whatever they thought they needed to have in order to "tend" bees, and they always come away with some kind of honey candy! Sometimes I buy wick for dipping candles, or taper candle molds, or sometimes I buy a new chunk of bees wax to wax my linen thread with. One of my favorites is to "people" watch. I know......... but I like to see what kinds of folks come to buy bees. I always get get a kick out of this, and then I realize, that I myself am one among the numbers!!!! lol!!!!! There are a huge variety of us........some look like hippies, some like yuppies, some look like farmers....some look like business men......some bring all their kids......some bring dogs......some come in company trucks, some come in mini vans, and station wagons.....some have suvs. Some are in a hurry, some take their time. The Jones Bee yard is filled with noise and laughter and people. I bet they are glad when the bees are all gone to their new homes, and there are no more people hanging around!

All the way home, the trunk of the car is buzzing with the sound of bees, and inevitably, the "hitchhiker bees" escape the trunk and find their way up in the car. This has worried some of my children more than others, and most of the time the errant bee gets squashed! LBC is no exception to the others. He had some yummy honey candy this trip, and he did squish a bee or two. Lucky, none of us are allergic to bees! We bought two new hives for ourselves this year, one for our DD, two for a friend, and two for a co worker of DH. So all together we had 7 hives buzzzzzzing in the car! It is a total family affair to watch and help put the bees in the hive boxes. Our little grandson, stepped on a bee in the house, and it did sting his little foot. I felt really bad because he kind of limped around on it for a while. That was the only sting this year, other than the dogs who just don't know how to stay out of the middle of anything! lol It has been a treat to have our own honey all these years, and it has also been a treat to watch as my children tended bees with their dad! Big guy in white bee suit, veiled and gloved, whole bunch of little guys in white or light colored clothes, the legs of their pants duck taped tight, wearing too huge of hats and veils tied on them, following after their Dad, talking and asking questions non stop!
.......................................... I think the honey was actually just a by product of tending bees........lol
