What is in a name??? (edited and added to.... again )

Sometimes Blogger is so slow to update ya know it? Well, in between the time I posted this post this morning, and came home and peeked on line again, I found something else I wanted to share with you........ so I added it to the end of my post......... :-D

Anyway, this question got me to thinking, (I know, that's twice this week...scary huh ) And I decided to take the name plunge.... so I can sign everything with the same name. When I began blogging in January , I did and didn't want to use my own name I felt the same way about the names of my children/grandchildren...but again, sometimes I have used our real names.........I've made it all very confusing.........


From the time I first visited her blog "Be It Ever So Humble", I have been a huge fan of Mrs. Mordecai and her pen names. http://be-it-ever-so-humble.blogspot.com/ . I know other bloggers who also use pen names. So, here goes. The lady of 'The Stone house', ( the stone house being a homestead home built out of sandstone, which would make a post topic for another day, ) ( I smile here, and you're yawning ...lol )has decided to completely go by the pen name, Mercy Otis.


Why Mercy Otis???


Humm. Well, she was a strong willed woman, mother of 5, who was influential in the cause of Freedom during our American Revolution.

I was reading a post today on Country Pleasures, where I learned that 3 days ago was National S'more Day.

Had I know this day loomed on the horizon, I would have planned for it. As it was, the S'mores Day julibee passed by unnoticed and uncelebrated! ........LOL

Here's a little 'S'more' trivia for today....The Hershey Company produces Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars for 746 million S'mores annually, while 90 million pounds of marshmallows are annually produced! No small amount. We all love the ooey gooey of warm chocolate and marshmallows I'm guessing.

We've tried short cut Smores, using chocolate covered cookies instead of the chocolate bar and graham crackers. Not the same . A first for our family this year, were S'mores made with Resses Peanut butter cups instead of Milk Chocolate bars. They were good, but I would rather eat the peanut butter bar plain, little bite by little bite! But I'm a S'more traditionalist, preferring to use the original 1927 recipe.

Summer time isn't the only time we eat S'mores. We eat em all winter long, standin around the burner of our kitchen stove roasting marshmallows on dinner forks.

My friend Brandi says the toasted coconut and Carmel swirl marshmallows are yummy! So there is another variation...

I love the coconut marshmallows just plain. In fact I don't buy them any more because i just snarf the entire bag down ! We had Carmel popcorn balls at Home evening a couple of Mondays ago, and they were made using the Carmel swirl marshmallows. They were way good... (just a little side note that has nothing what so ever to do with Smores.....).


I would recommend some S'mores this weekend. My personal preference would be to indulge while sitting in camp chairs around the fire pit out in my yard. Yummy Good Times.

Panache.....

So, do you have it?

(French word in origin that carries the connotation of a flamboyant manner or reckless courage)

I left a comment on a fellow blogger's post this morning that has got me thinking. (ya, novel idea huh) Why not have Panache every day of our lives? Humm?

To answer to my own question, I would have to say no I don't have a lot of Panache. But reconsidering, in all fairness to myself, the answer may be, sometimes I do. Yes, there are times when I have Panache, and then there are times when I am sadly lacking it. I think I place to many restrictions on myself. But as of today, I'm vowing to have some PANACHE in each and every day! To be bold, to make a jingle when I move, to have a little sass, & to show how much I love my life. I want keep my DH's life so stirred up, that he'll wonder which side is going to be up this time! I want him to miss me when I'm not with him. LOL ( can he truly be happy in a calm and drab atmosphere?) If you have Panache, I tip my hat to you ! I want to be like you when I grow up !

...........And speaking of growing up,........ my oldest grandchildren are 7 today! Unbelievable!

Last time I went to TS I was lucky enough to snag this bowl. Don't know how old it is, or who made it. I do know it's old, and I love it.

My daughter gifted me with this old cupboard. Many years ago it had been in the kitchen of her home. I need to clean it. Don't know that I'll re paint it, but I may do some sanding and staining, and I think I'll add some doors. I Love it! Can't wait to get it done and placed in it's spot.

AND, this is how it goes with a 12 year old! I asked him to pose for posterity. There we are! LOL

Summer Love

One of my fav summer loves is a horse ride in the cooler summer evenings! P-Jo got to have her first ride the other night with her dad. Her mom said she seemed to enjoy it.

Paislee loves to be wrapped up like a little burrito for sleeping . She is not always a very cuddly baby girl, but prefers to be facing outwards looking at everything that is going on, standing on her wobbly legs or sitting up. Sometimes she gets so sleepy and doesn't want to give in, so then it's burrito time for her. She just relaxes and off to sleep she goes! I am wondering if she will always like to sleep all snugged up tight? LOL Both of our all most 2 year old grandsons love her and can't hardly seem to pass her by without kissing her on her little head. ( and poking her eyes, and sticking grubby fingers in her mouth and pulling on her little legs...!!! lol ) But they surely do love her! Aren't 2 year olds a hoot!

BUT, one thing I don't love about this time of summer.................MICE! AHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! We've been invaded!!!!!!!!!

I know,................... old house, sitting in the middle of hay fields! ........................................But all the same.................................. I have declared war, and hope to win the battles. We have no cats. I know, I know what your going to say next, and you're right. But, (there always has to be one) It's not because we don't want any, but we have Heeler dogs, and cats don't live long lives with heelers around. (a couple of days really) Big sigh here............... We love our dogs, and they do help some with the cows, but they also keep the coyote's out of the yard, and the skunks out of the chickens, and we have cougars that roam not too far off, so it's a sort of toss up. Mice...coyotes...mice...possible cougars...........mice or skunks and weasels......lol

BUT the world has given us "one bite"! (ya, we chose coyotes skunks and possible cougars over mice) (what were we thinking?) A very successful bar bait! And, peanut butter scented sticky traps, and just plain old fashioned snap traps. We. Will. Fight. Back. Wa ha ha!!! (sorry, they make me a little crazy...) (can you picture me in your mind, hiding around the corner of the fridge holding a ginormous
mallet above my head, wild eyes darting this way and that, oh yeah, can't forget the hair standing on end! (which it always is anyway...) wearing a stained apron, it's pockets bulging full of mouse traps, just waiting for an unsuspecting mouse to scurry my way.....WHAM! Wa ha ha !!!) It's got to be them or me. We. can. not. under. any. circumstances. co-exist!

OK, a mush less morbid and far more uplifting topic, a new love I have found this summer.... Necklaces and bead watch bands. Haven't really had a 'love' for necklaces ever before......really, too much darn chest to bounce around a necklace on, just added to the bulk...why couldn't I have gotten the 'flat chest' gene? (Yeah, I know I have issues lol)......... But I am really loving these. ( which do bounce around) My daughter is full of talent! As of now, I have been bitten by the bead bug.......I am in the (very mind you) early stages of learning the how to's. ..........sorry the pic are horrendous...... the top one has a very stoic lady on the front and on the back it says something like....who can clean house when there is the whole world to save. That is so my daughter. :-) The other one has a fairy lady on it and says Flea Market Fairy and on the back it says 'she always has junk in her trunk'. That one belongs to me. So, I am going to have to start a saving account just to buy beads and findings and such! LOL

We are going to Nephi some day this week, to buy some hay forks. I love summer road trips...to almost anywhere! We still have school shopping to do for LBC , who doesn't lovOK to shop? (OK, so my mom is not a fan....) My apricots are just coming on. Gotta love apricot jam! And I love preparing for our end of summer bash, Rendezvous!
